The journey of the An-Tiki raft crew is almost finished but the destination was changed from Eleuthera to Sint Maarten in the Lesser Antilles. On April 4 the blog of www.an-tiki.com reported... "We (four An-Tiki adventurers) are still heading west and have 116 miles to go as I (David Hildred, Sailing Master and crew member) write this. We are still hoping for Wednesday, April 6, but could do with a little more wind. We will be approaching Sint Maarten from almost due east and this involves us passing to the north of St. Barts"

Anthony Smith (aged 84) and three other men will be crossing the Atlantic on a raft made from heavy duty plastic water pipes.
Starting point: January 2011, Gomera island in the Canary Islands, off of the coast of Africa. Destination: March 2011, Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The idea of naming this project An-Tiki (antique) was inspired by Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki expedition. When the experienced adventurer Anthony Smith began recruiting for the expedition five years ago, he asked for candidates of pensionable age only. But he has since relented and chosen a slightly younger crew, largely on the grounds of character and eccentricity. Usefully, one happens to be a medical doctor. Good news for Central Eleuthera! The "Charming Resort" Cocodimama which was closed for over a year, will be re-opened in December of 2008. The Coco is one of only three hotels that are situated directly on an Eleutheran beach. Cocodimama is 1 mile south of Governor's Harbour airport on beautiful Alabaster Bay, also known as Receiver's beach.

Mr. Eddie Lauth, main actor in the creation of "French Leave Resort" - formerly Club Med - in Governors Harbour, Eleuthera, announced in mid-March 2008, that his commitment to the project remains unchanged despite a tough global business environment. The same article of March 18, in The Bahama Journal also mentions the recently announced $1.2 billion development by Urgo Hotels - at the former Naval Base and Alabaster Bay just south of Governors Harbour airport.
