I can tell you from experience that it is a lot of hassle to build a home on this island. Much more so than in North America or Europe. A famous saying on Eleuthera goes like this... "Once you start building, your vacation is over".It's an interesting fact that many foreigners fall in love with Eleuthera. They want to live here and are full of enthusiasm... First, they buy a piece of land. Then they go through all the administrative difficulties of building on the island, and the logistical problems of getting building materials over from the U.S. They also have to deal with a work mentality which is quite different from what they are accustomed to. And once their home is completed, much work goes into landscaping, growing trees and all kind of plants. You will find that buying a finished house will save you much time, stress and money, because you'll know exactly what you're going to get, instead of hoping for one thing and winding up with another. If you purchase a fully furnished home, you will save yourself even more hassles. Therefore I suggest you first look at finished homes for sale before considering building your own.
