Why Eleuthera?
We Live Here Because of the Many Spectacular Beaches and...

... the air on Eleuthera is super pure and the water crystal clear.

Turquoise and blue colors around this island are absolutely awe-inspiring. Here is what the travel book *Unforgettable Islands To Escape To Before You Die* says about Eleuthera...

"This Out-Island in The Bahamas is a narrow strip of land which boasts the most deeply turquoise waters you will see anywhere in the world".

And it's so close to Florida's east coast, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

August 23, 2008

This past week tropical storm Fay did not touch us. It went past the Bahamas in the South and only caused a grey sky here for 2 to 3 days.

Mid-day temperature on the island approx. 93°F/34°C.
Water temperature on the Atlantic side: 88°F/31°C.
Measured 100 feet from the water line. Nice breeze.

On this site I'm showing what *our* island holds for tourists. Simply click on Eleuthera Vacation to the upper left on this page.

And... Why Winter residents like ourselves are in love with it.

Not only are we familiar with all the pristine beaches but we swam them, picnicked and walked on them. Curious?...

Click on Best Beaches to the left and see them all.

My wife and I are from Europe. We're spending our Winters here and sometimes we even stay all through Summer.

Take a look at the 5-day and 6-10-day weather forecast for Governor's Harbour in Central Eleuthera to get the idea. For temperatures in Celsius, click the C°-link.

We enjoy a moderate climate here. In Summer it's not as hot as in Santa Barbara, California, and during Winters it's considerably warmer.

Eleuthera island has rolling hills -- there are no mountains like in so many Caribbean islands. That means lots of sunshine and little rain during Winters.

October usually gets the most rain. November is the beginning of Winter, a pleasantly warm Winter. Water temperatures never drop below 74°F/24°C.

Of course we also enjoy the tranquility and the friendly atmosphere on this so-called Family Island.

Eleutherans are very friendly people. Don't worry about getting around on your own. It's totally safe to explore.

Would you like to read a few interviews with locals and foreigners? Just click!

By the way, Eleuthera - pronounced El-oo-thra - is a difficult word. Here are some common misspellings... Eleuthra, Eluethera & Eluthra. Who cares!

But notice the message on the lady's T-shirt...

Eleuthera, It's not for everyone. Because it's not an island really developed for tourism.

That's going to change though but not dramatically. When? After 2008. Click on New Developments - the upper left navigation button - for info about new resorts that are under construction or in the planning phase.

Quite a number of restaurants are in business and a few hotels. Click on All Restaurants to the left on this page. You can even see those with a link to them.

Music and entertainment? Yes, to a degree but mass tourism is still unknown. And it will probably remain so for quite a while.

Winter residents who own homes on the island are mainly from the US, Canada and Europe. Who knows, maybe one day you'll want to join us.

As you can see no location is far from a beach.

"Our" island is only 20 minutes by air from Nassau, capital of The Bahamas. And... Only one hour from Miami or Fort Lauderdale. We like to be so close to Florida, our shopping center.

Did you notice the location of Governor's Harbour on the above map? That's the area where most Winter residents own homes. And Haynes Library is their meeting point offering high-speed Internet access, too.
