Why Eleuthera?
We Live Here Because of the Many Spectacular Beaches
And...

...the air on Eleuthera is super pure and the water crystal clear. Ideal for a relaxing Bahamas vacation.

The turquoise and blue colors around this island are absolutely awe-inspiring. See what the travel book "Unforgettable Islands To Escape To Before You Die" says...

"This Out-Island is a narrow strip of land which boasts the most deeply turquoise waters you will see anywhere in the world." And on top of that, there's no shortage of Bahamas vacation rentals on Eleuthera.

"Our" island is really close to Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Florida. Just one hour by air.

On this site I will show you the island's character and some great Eleuthera rentals. You'll find lots of useful tourist information here, too.

We are familiar with all the spectacular beaches because we swam, picnicked and walked on them. Curious?... Click on "Best Beaches" to the left and see them all.

My wife and I are from Europe. We live on this Bahamian Out-Island most of the time because we like the island weather. Take a look at the 5-10 day weather forecast for Governor's Harbour where most tourists go. Here's a great aerial photo of Governor's Harbour.

We're enjoying a moderate climate. In summer it's not as hot as in Santa Barbara, California, and during winters it's considerably warmer.

The island has rolling hills -- there are no mountains like in so many Caribbean destinations. That means lots of sunshine and little rain during winters.

Best of all?...

Because many winter residents rent their homes, you have a wide choice of Eleuthera vacation rentals. But only a handful of hotels are in business.

October usually gets the most rain. November is the beginning of winter, a pleasantly warm winter. Water temperatures never drop below 74°F/24°C.

Eleutherans are very friendly people. Don't worry about getting around on your own. It's totally safe to explore.

By the way, most people can't say our island's name. It's pronounced El-oo-thra, a difficult word. Here are some common misspellings... Eleuthra, Eluethera & Eluthra. Who cares!

But notice the message on the lady's T-shirt...

Eleuthera, It's not for everyone. Because it's not an island really developed for tourism.

That's going to change though but not dramatically. When? After 2010. Click on New Developments for info about new resorts that are under construction or in the planning phase. Upper left side on this page.

Quite a number of restaurants are offering tasty Bahamian, Italian and Cajun food. Click on All Restaurants at the upper left. View those with a link to them.

Music and entertainment? Yes, to a degree, but mass tourism is still unknown. And it will probably remain so for quite a while.

Winter residents who own homes on the island are mainly from the US, Canada and Europe. Who knows, maybe one day you'll join us.

As you can see no location is far from a beach. That's useful if you have booked one of the many Eleuthera vacation rentals. You may want to drive to a cooler or calmer beach for an afternoon.

"Our" island is only 20 minutes by air from Nassau. We like to be close to the capital which has much more extensive shopping. You can also get there by fast ferry in two hours.

Did you notice the location of Governor's Harbour on the above map? That's the area where most winter residents own homes. And Haynes Library is their meeting point offering high-speed Internet access, too.
