Our Wonderful Vacation on Eleuthera...
by Robert & Cailin

Eleuthera is beautiful and its people are very friendly.
When asked to write about the amazing, picturesque island of Eleuthera we find the superlatives insufficient.
How to describe the wide expanse of beaches without a person on them, the rugged pock marked lava out-crops where 12" conch shells appear in a fish filled nook, the sunrise that defies description by even the best photo...
After being stuck weathering tropical storm Noel in Nassau for a few days we were more than ready to escape. Nassau is fine but the tourists - I know... we're tourists too! - and the pace was not what we wanted. Chrome and Glass Casinos are not for us and we had seen the funky zoo and toured Bacardi enough! We were looking for tropical beaches, warm sand & sea and a place to relax.
We found just that when we arrived at our rental cottage our rental cottage Orchid....
It was comfy and friendly, well appointed and clean. Our hosts were fantastic! The house is a great Caribbean rental home.
We spent most of our time just relaxing, walking on 'our' beach and visiting other beaches on the island. The most amazing thing is while we were walking on 'our' beach we saw no one other than our hosts one time. We walked for hours and hours over the 6 days and were alone. Total solitude! Time to think, reflect and ponder on our world.
That was a real vacation!
We did manage to travel 'up island' and visit a number of other beautiful beaches, snorkel a bit and try some of the nice restaurants too.
While up north we jammed at Elvina's night club - see photo above - and met some of the fantastic, friendly local folks - native Bahamians and expatriates
We had never been to the Bahamas and can't wait to get back. Next time will be for 2 weeks... and who knows, maybe one day to live there!
