If you are looking for a charming spot, Ten Bay Beach will pleasantly surprise you. Particularly when the tide is low or when the sea on the Atlantic side is too rough. On mornings this beach is naturally shaded by large casuarina trees.
Ten Bay is a great place to have a picnic and a swim.
The calm protected bay has a clean sandy bottom and is shallow for a long ways out. This really is a great place to go swimming.
Or learn to snorkel here. Snorkeling is good at either end of the bay where it is rocky. Some cliffs overhang the water.
But how about lazing in the sun out at sea?
You may be meeting a few people here who are renting one of the homes that you can see - well, just barely - in the background below.
When the tide is high, Ten Bay Beach looks quite different.
You won't have to walk out far, when the water line is much closer to the trees.
If it's getting too hot here, you could drive to breezier Double Bay Beach only 0.7 miles north on the highway.
In other words, once you are back to the highway, turn left and go for 0.7 miles to a paved road on the right with two stone posts. This is the access to Double Bay on the windier, Atlantic side of Eleuthera.
Ten Bay is to the left and Double Bay at the upper part of this aerial picture.
On the map above, Ten Bay is on the lower left and Double Bay Beach on the upper right.
The aerial photo above was taken from the left lower side of the map, looking over to Double Bay Beach.
Coming from the North:
3.7 miles south of the Palmetto Point crossroads (the Sand grocery store there is on your right), you'll see a blue and yellow goverment metal sign to your right that says Beach Access.
Turn right into the dirt road and proceed for 0.4 miles on that track to the beach parking. The road is in pretty good shape. Any car can negotiate it.
Coming from the South:
2.6 miles after the small Savannah Sound Shell station (to the left of the highway) you'll see a blue and yellow goverment metal sign to your left that says Beach Access.
Turn left into the dirt road and proceed for 0.4 miles on that track to the beach parking. The road is in pretty good shape. Any car can negotiate it.
