You Must See Winding Bay Beach...
South of Central Eleuthera

Winding Bay beach is protected from the Atlantic waves. It is ideal for swimming and picnicking and always has a breeze.

Is it one of Eleuthera's prettiest pink sand beaches?

You judge...

Winding Bay beach is wide and fascinating. Walk it from the south end where a water system with mangroves lies hidden behind the beach. Can you see it on the lower left side of the aerial photo below?

A few upscale homes are on the southern part of Winding Bay. For location, comfort and beauty, we like this one best.

If you'd prefer a different one, contact...
Judy in Florida. She knows Bahamas beach house rentals inside out and will find your ideal vacation home anywhere in the Bahamas.

A little further north of Winding Bay beach is the now closed VENTA CLUB, an Italian version of Club Med.

We just love to come here for a picnic and cold drinks that we're usually getting from Sammy's Place in Rock Sound about seven miles south.

And isn't this beach inviting for a swim?...

winding bay beach, starfish, bahamas star,

In July we found this area filled with starfish. We were told they are here just for the mating season. But then in November we found a few more.

Notice the size of this rubbery feeling, non-prickling creature, called *Cushion Star* or the Bahamas Star.

Starfish may well be the most unusual well-known creatures. They have no front or back. They can move in any direction without turning. Rather than using muscles to move their hundreds of tiny legs, starfish use a complex hydraulic system to move around or cling to rocks.

Let's now walk a little further north...

There are a few foreign homes to the left. And the VENTA CLUB is on the extreme right in the picture.

Here's a photo of the Club which was closed after 9/11 due to lack of tourists from Italy.

No more Espresso... What a pity!

The length of the entire beach is about 1.6 miles and we like to walk it in a pleasant morning breeze.

Below you see the northern side of Winding Bay beach where we found even more starfish.

Directions to Winding Bay beach:

Coming from the North:

9.9 miles south of the Savannah Sound SHELL petrol pump -- really, it's nothing more than that and you'll see it on the right of the highway -- there's another SHELL station. No, I don't mean the one you will see as you drive into Tarpum Bay, but the next one outside of Tarpum Bay on your way to Rock Sound.

At that SHELL station turn left into a paved road and continue for 1.4 miles to VENTA CLUB on your left. Go for another 0.4 miles to an easily visible beach access path to your left.

This trail is about 150 yards long. Park your car in the shade and walk the last few steps to Winding Bay beach.

The south side is to your right. That's probably the part you'll want to see first.

Coming from the South:

6.7 miles north of Rock Sound Hardware - which is part of a shopping center on the left of the highway - turn right into a paved road at the SHELL station.

Continue for 1.4 miles to VENTA CLUB on your left. Go for another 0.4 miles to an easily visible beach access path to your left.

This trail is about 150 yards long. Park your car in the shade and walk the last few steps to Winding Bay beach.

The south side is to your right. That's probably the part you'll want to see first.
